GT CONCEPT REVEALS OPEL/VAUXHALL’S SPORTS CAR TEMPLATE

Sports car might be quite expensive than traditional cars but have their own charm, style and characteristics because of which they have their own separate kind of a market. Opel and Vauxhall which is the European brand of GM is suspected to have a new design/template in the house. At the Geneva Motor Show of 2016 they revealed a template in which they described the model of the upcoming range of cars in the sports world.

Normally Opel and Vauxhall are not actually focusing on launching sports cars for years in fact their actual focus is on the unique and bold styling of powertrains has been going on. The Vice President of GM, Design Europe, Mark Adams said that this template is dramatic, sculptural and full of innovation. It is to note that this design that is being presented is different from traditional Opel or Vauxhall products, how? Because unlike the traditional models this model has front/mid-engine, rear wheel configurations.

The brand is trying to demonstrate the usefulness and uniqueness of the product’s GT concept by providing a comparison between the new proposed template and the pre-Geneva technical details. Some of these are that the new template has 3-cylinder engine with a 6-speed sequential gearbox. It is by comparison the 107kW and 205-N-m version of 1.0-L turbo unit that is being currently used by the company.

Moreover, the weight of the car is under 1000 kg as told by Adams and The car weighs “under 1000 kg,” according to Adams, and in less than 8 seconds it is said to have a performance of 100 km/h with a maximum velocity of 216 km/h.

Opel Speedster/Vauxhall VX220 was the most recent sports car launched by the Vauxhall and Opel group, it was built from 2000-2005 on the basis of Lotus Series 2 Elise. This means that these brands have been into this market before. Now comes the point that where did GT concept got its idea from? It is clearly GT Opel that was built from 1968 to 1973. This GT Concept was the first ever styling model that was produced by Vauxhall Design and Engineering Center in U.K. The GT produced resembled a scaled down Corvette that was itself an advancement of GM’s Mako Shark Concept.

Adams praises the latest design by saying that it is pure, minimalistic, bold and uncompromising. He emphasized that this design was an example or proof of the fact that our designing philosophy is continuously developing and making progress.

By a minimalistic model they mean that there are no door mirrors and door handles. Also to get a clear and visible image of rear side two cameras have been mounted on wheel arches of GT Concept, the images are displayed on two cabin screens. As told the experts of GM aerodynamics these camera-based vision systems are getting closer to production.

Previous models had a feature that windshield swept into a glass panoramic roof, this feature is still a part of the new template.

Some of the major innovative features that have been made part of GT concept are; doors and side windows are integrated and power operated and make a seamless transition. The front seat passenger and driver will have to use a touchpad to open doors, moreover the pad is integrated in red roof level signature line. The design is a state of art and will definitely amaze people.
